Plant a Tree In Your Yard!
The Neighborhood Tree Program helps you plant a native tree on your own property.
Don't know how to plant a tree? Want your kids to have the experience of planting a tree? We can help! MTF will help you select an appropriate native tree for your property, deliver the tree to your yard, help you plant it, provide information on maintenance and even check back with you a few months after planting to see how your tree is doing. More trees in McLean, more trees in your yard. It’s a win-win!
how to apply
Ready to get started? Here’s what to do:
Submit the online form below. Although we only plant trees in the spring and fall, we accept applications year-round.
Pay a $100 fee applicable directly to Neighborhood Tree Program costs.
A few things to consider:
We ONLY plant trees in the McLean, Virginia area.
We ONLY plant native Virginia trees (see the list of trees we plant here.) The trees have a trunk diameter of about an inch.
Be sure to take note of any irrigation systems, utility lines, fences, or other obstructions that might affect the location of your tree planting. We do not plant in VDOT rights-of-way.
Obtain all permissions that might be required (e.g., from a homeowner association).
how it works
An MTF volunteer will come to your house to review the site, select a tree, and set a planting date.
We will deliver the tree and help you plant it, providing you with information on how to care for your new tree.
An MTF volunteer will visit you from 1 to 6 months after planting to check on the health of the tree.
We will advise you at any time on the care of your tree (however, MTF cannot give refunds if a tree fails to grow).
